Meet the Instructors
Doug Heiferman
As an Approved IICRC Instructor, Doug Heiferman has traveled the United States teaching textile cleaning and restoration courses for the past eleven years. He instructs classes on oriental rug cleaning, tile and grout cleaning, wood cleaning, leather cleaning, odor control as well as business marketing and management classes.
In addition to teaching, Doug is an IICRC Certified Master Textile Cleaner and was owner/operator of a successful textile cleaning and restoration company for 16 years. Doug has a diversified business background and has gained valuable experience working for corporations such as Lillian Vernon, Federated Department Stores, and Citibank in the areas of purchasing, inventory control, credit and collections, and finance. He has earned degrees in Business Administration and Political Science.
Doug's positive attitude combined with a motivating teaching style makes him one of the most requested instructors in the country. He is well known for teaching his students how to be ultra competitive in today's fast paced business environment through the use of advanced technical skills and innovative sales and marketing techniques.
Barry Costa
Barry grew up in the industry, helping his father install carpet from the age of 12. He started in the cleaning industry and with water damage restoration work around 1970.
While remaining active in carpet care, he taught public school from 1976 until 1986 when he rejoined the industry full-time.
He owned Carpet & Cleaning Craftsman, Inc., a restoration, carpet cleaning and installation company, until December of 1999.Since then, he has focused his career on teaching in the carpet industry, or as he has called it, blending his two lives.
Make no mistake; here is a man that most say is passionate about what he does for a living.
He lives with his wife Carol and son Adam, and is president of Costa Group, Inc., in Peterborough, NH.

Gary Funari
Gary has spent 20 years as a construction specialist in the residential construction, commercial construction and restoration industries. Since 1990, Gary has served in the following cpapcities for Unsmoke-Microban located in Coraopolis, PA USA: Construction Manager, Technical Services Director, Vice Presisdent of Unsmoke Systems 2001-2008, Remediation consultant on fire, water, odor and microbial damage issues to the insurance industry, building owners and remediation and insurance industry trainer in the areas of: Fire, Water, Microbial remediation and Odor control. Gary is a trainer for RIA NIDR technician course. Gary is a guest instructor for Unsmoke's IICRC Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT). Gary is a WLS, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer, Master Water Damage Restorer, CEIC, CMRS, CMR, CIE.
